STEAMPUNK

Now what self respecting Steampunker would not like to take tea from one of Royal Crown Derby’s Steampunk Collection. (You would have to be a wealthy Steampunker though, this cup and saucer UK £90.00)

Quote:—”The Steampunk collection from peerless fine English bone china perfectionist Royal Crown Derby is a playful and eclectic mix of style, function and luxury. Featuring engineering, science and clockwork motifs cleverly re-imagined to portray elegance and precision, Steampunk embodies a look that is contemporary and bold but pays homage to the greatness of our 19th Century technological past. The graphic monochrome patterns are styled uniquely for each item in the collection and are available in light (Ante Meridiem) and dark (Post Meridiem) versions.”

'Finding The Queen'
Watercolors on paper

At the end of your journey, you will find yourself in the halls of the Queen.Some calls her the Mother. Some calls her Prativi, like the earth herself. Some says she watches over the land since the dawn of time, holding the soil and water of our home close to her heart. And still some others scoffs and denies that she exists at all.Yet there she is before you, and she beckons you to come closer.You will kneel before her and kiss her hand.And she will give you five things.A bale of cloth and rice, for you to use and share with all who journey with youThe horn of a bull, to call upon your kin in hours of needThe seed of a mighty tree, to plant and one day shelter ones you loveA garland of chains, to remind you that everyone you meet are equal parts of the same circleAnd a shard of the sky, to light and guide your way in the darkest of places.The Queen will say that finding her is not the end of your journey. It is merely a beginning. And these things, these five things are for you to keep and use as you continue on. Use them well. Keep them close to your heart.She then smiles and whispers."I believe in you"

(Based on Indonesia’s ‘Pancasila’ or the five pillars of the nation. Indonesians often refers to their land as ‘Ibu Pertiwi’ or ‘Mother earth’)

This story could easily fit into the Aether Nomad concept. A beautiful illustration, too!

Some calls her the Mother. Some calls her Prativi, like the earth herself. Some says she watches over the land since the dawn of time, holding the soil and water of our home close to her heart. And still some others scoffs and denies that she exists at all.
Yet there she is before you, and she beckons you to come closer.

You will kneel before her and kiss her hand.
And she will give you five things.

A bale of cloth and rice, for you to use and share with all who journey with you
The horn of a bull, to call upon your kin in hours of need
The seed of a mighty tree, to plant and one day shelter ones you love
A garland of chains, to remind you that everyone you meet are equal parts of the same circle
And a shard of the sky, to light and guide your way in the darkest of places.

The Queen will say that finding her is not the end of your journey. It is merely a beginning. And these things, these five things are for you to keep and use as you continue on. Use them well. Keep them close to your heart.

The Aether Nomads are a character type concept for the Steampunk genre and an opportunity for collaborative creation, whether you prefer to create costumes, write stories, compose music or craft items. This is from my latest post on the Aether Nomads private group on Facebook. Get in touch if you’re seriously enthusiastic and I’ll be happy to add you!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This concept is still growing and we need your input! Yesterday, I had the idea of expressing the four Vocations and their related ‘paths’ as a compass design.
Here we have ‘The Compessence’ or ‘Soul Compass’, a map of the Vocations.
Vibrancer - (Dancers, Performers, Musicians and Tradition-keepers)
Aethermatician - (Airship Pilots,Navigators)
Symbologists - (Diviners, Jewellers,Linguists,Historians, keepers of records)
Metaphysicians - (Healers, Philosophers, Gardeners)
At the very centre is the ‘Jewel of the Black Sun’, the balance of all four Vocations and the meeting point of all paths. This is where Alchemists reside. This is what Al Khemeti is.
There are some key metaphysical concepts for each vocation:
A ~ Movement Without
M ~ Movement Within
V ~ Expression
S ~ Impression
Heyk has put forward some ideas for paths. Let’s see if we can re-frame these archetypes within the Aether Nomad’s cultural compass.
I might have to do this in three dimensions! A D8 springs to mind!
Warrior - they have the physical expression of a Vibrancer and the body-focus and discipline of a Metaphysician (I’m thinking along the lines of martial arts here). Names…BladeDancer?
Adventurer/Ranger - The ability to navigate their way around and the physical stamina of a dancer puts them between the Aethermatician and the Vibrancer. Name suggestions?
Wise Man/Scholar - at least two possibilities here. Theoretical and Aether Physicists deal with complex formulae and the mystery of the Aether, so they sit between Aethermatician and Symbologist. (Name?)
Botanists, Biologists, Chemists deal with the Physical and sit between Metaphysician (metaphysics encompassing their version of holistic medicine) and Symbology, as they see the physical world as an expression of (and language of) energy. (Name?)
Dancer/Musician - Dancer - we already have CloudDancer.Because they are concerned with the body, they sit between Vibrancer and Metaphysician (they understand how to care for their health on all levels and how filter symbols through the physical medium of the body to create meaningful dances. Not just performers, they may hide secondary skills such as the character Farruka ( Sarah Chernik's character below). There may be other types of Dancer - BladeDancer, FireDancer,WindDancer…have fun thinking them up!
Musician - Definitely sits right under Vibrancer. As music is a complement to language and yet not of it, it sits opposite Symbologist. We need a poetic name for ‘Musician’.
Thief - There’s always a trickster. The Aether Nomads see life as a whole and know that you can never take anything away without it being replaced with something…so… Maybe this is a hidden aspect? If this diagram were a D8 with the Alchemist on one point, the Thief might be on the other? He also stands for The Fool, naïve, childlike, inexperienced.
Wizard - Alchemist is the ultimate goal but you might find a Journeyman/woman who has accomplished three of the four vocations (or is naturally skilled in three out of four). Can you think of different combinations leading to different types of Wizard? Again, we need names.
Crafter - Usually a Symbologist as the Aether Nomads put meaning into everything they make. This is where I have fun making my jewellery as the eventual owners can create stories around the various beads and bits. Important formulae are recorded as certain shapes, patterns, even colours.
